A Guide to Tulane University Libraries' Digital Collections

Accessibility

Tulane University Libraries Digital Collections are managed in Alma Digital and made available to our users via the Primo discovery platform. Primo is continually designed and developed to meet Level AA of the W3C Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG 2.1) and Section 508 of the US Rehabilitation Act for features and functions. We invite you to read the Primo Accessibility Statement.

Captions & Transcriptions

Digital Scholarship & Initiatives staff offers in-house transcription and captioning services to increase accessibility for all video request submissions.

Our staff provides transcribing and review of your audiovisual content. We will strive to create captions with 99% accuracy as recommended by the ALA Accessibility Report. If you have a pre-scripted video request, please provide us with your script to increase accuracy of captioning.

Once we create the captions, we will publish them to YouTube and/or Digital Collections with closed captions functionality. Audiovisual content added to Digital Collections will also include a downloadable PDF text transcript.

We can only transcribe English language content. If you have non-English content we can provide guidance to you for creating your own captions and transcripts.

DSI uses Adobe Speech to Text functionality in Adobe Premiere Pro for transcript and captioning services. Completion times will vary depending on the video.

Citation

There are different ways to cite your sources. The style you use usually depends on the academic discipline in which you are engaged. All citations, however, should provide the necessary information for your reader to find the source being cited. In general, a citation for a digital item should include the following elements:

  • Creator
  • Date of Creation
  • Title
  • Collection Name
  • Repository Name
  • Date Accessed
  • Citable URL

Copyright

Materials in Digital Collections may be protected by domestic and/or international copyright and property laws. Distribution or reproduction of copyrighted materials beyond that allowed by fair use requires the written permission of the copyright owners. To the extent that restrictions other than copyright apply, permission for distribution or reproduction from the applicable rights holder is also required. Responsibility for obtaining permission, and for any use, rests exclusively with the user.

Permissions

The Digital Scholarship and Initiatives Department, which manages Tulane University Libraries Digital Collections, does not handle reproduction requests or publishing permissions. All requests should be directed to the item's holding repository, as indicated in the item record.
