Glossary of Terms

 

(Critical) Information Literacy

When students become active agents, asking and answering questions that matter to them and to the world around them.1

 

Data Literacy

The ability to read, write and communicate data in context, including an understanding of data sources and constructs, analytical methods and techniques applied — and the ability to describe the use case, application and resulting value.2

 

Digital Literacy

The ability to use information and communication technologies to find, evaluate, create, and communicate information, requiring both cognitive and technical skills.3

 

Media Literacy

Understanding the role of media in society as well as essential skills of inquiry and self-expression necessary for citizens of a democracy.4

 

Universal Design for Learning

Teaching that provides multiple means of engagement, representation, and expression to enhance learning for all people.5
