Researching from Off Campus Library Guide

Resources and tips for conducting remote research during the COVID-19 crisis.

About

There are many ways to procure a PDF of an article or book chapter when you have a specific publication in mind. Articles and book chapters are easier to access because they aren't governed by as strict copyright rules as full books.

Try this checklist and/or email a librarian for help.

1. TU Article Search

Limit your search to ARTICLES using the button at the top of the Advanced Search page. The article search includes book chapters.

Search the title of the article in quotation marks to see if it is available via our library catalog.

2. Search the Title in Quotes in Google

If you can't access the article/book chapter via our library catalog, try searching the title in quotes in Google.

Keep in mind:

  • some results may be on authors' Research Gate and Academia.edu pages and technically be in violation of copyright
  • some results may prompt you to login--if so see there is an institutional sign-in for Tulane or email us for help

3. Request a Scan through Interlibrary Loan

Tulane is still offering ILLiad services to deliver PDFs of articles and book chapters. If you can't find an article or book chapter online, send an ILLiad request and the staff will process it as soon as possible.

4. Ask a Librarian!

You can email a librarian at any point in your search process to ask for assistance accessing an article or book chapter.
