This guide gathers together the core resources for initiating and supporting your research in music available to the Tulane community.

About this Guide

On this guide you will find article databases, streaming music and music video databases, key music reference resources, guidance for locating music-related books, and selected open access digital resources relevant to music research and performance.

If you would like personalized assistance, please contact your subject liaison, lisa Hooper, by emailing to schedule a research consultation appointment.

The following tips will provide a more efficient search experience.

Looking for the score of a classical piece of music?

Use the opus number as part of your search. In most library catalogs and online score databases, you will improve your chances of success by using the abbreviation of opus (op.) followed by the number. For example, rather than trying to guess whether you should use the German Streichquartetts of English "string quartets" when looking for Beethoven's early quartets, simply use the following: Beethoven "op. 18".

The Library offers a number of tutorials intended to assist you as you navigate the library's physical and digital spaces and progress through the research process. Additional personalized assistance is available at the first floor Research Help Desk and by contacting your subject liaison, lisa Hooper.
