Monographs/books, monographic series, specialized reference works, bibliographies, textbooks, digitized archival material, and serials are collected through automatic approval plans, firm orders, and end-of-year buying. Non-Tulane dissertations and audio-visuals are purchased selectively at user request.
To broaden accessibility, journals are sought online when this format is available. Print may be cancelled to reduce costs when ownership/perpetual access of the online version is assured. Monographs and other types are generally purchased as electronically; however, print materials are purchased when electronic materials are not available or are outside budgetary considerations. Other formats are considered, especially when the alternative format would improve access or utility.
