APA is a style format for writing essays, research papers, reference pages and other types of academic documents. APA style was developed by the American Psychology Association and is the official style format for psychology, education and other social sciences documents. APA style provides an outline for writers to construct their papers in an organized, easy-to-read format.

Chicago is a style format developed by the University of Chicago that is commonly used for publication in the United States. It is often referred to as the "editors' bible" and is used in business, literature, history and the arts. Chicago style is based primarily on a combination of two documentation styles: the CMS documentation style (the Notes-Bibliography System)  and the Author-Date System.

Turabian is an additional style format used for documentation and publication that is similar to Chicago Style; however, this style is primarily used by students and researchers in fields of business, literature, history and the arts.
