Founded in 1968, the Centre for Medieval Studies at the University of York is the oldest and largest centre for the interdisciplinary study of the Middle Ages in the UK.

Founded in 1991, MEMSAK is a collection of scholars interested in the multi-disciplinary research opportunities found in the medieval and early modern periods. association now holds conferences and publishes the journal twice a year in spring and fall. Since 1999, it has been sending representatives to the annual International Medieval Congress held in Kalamazoo, Michigan; it also organizes sessions in the Winter Conference of the English Language and Literature Association of Korea.
