Reference Works Collection Policy

Program Description

Howard-Tilton Memorial Library aims to connect library resources with its users. To achieve this end, the library engages in a variety of activities and services, many of which depend on an up-to-date, balanced, and subject-appropriate collection of reference materials. The library's General Reference Collection aims to help the support the teaching, research, and administrative activities of the Tulane University community as well as the university's general information needs in subject areas not covered by its instructional and research programs.

Reference materials are resources that provide background information or quick facts on any given topic. Examples include almanacs, atlases, bibliographies, biographical resources, dictionaries, encyclopedias (both general and by subject), handbooks, indexes, statistics, and citation guides.
