Digital Storytelling with ArcGIS StoryMaps

A guide to creating a digital exhibit using ArcGIS StoryMaps

Considerations for Storytelling

A digital exhibit uses text presentation and display of digital resources (images, sound, video) to tell a story. In the creation process, ask yourself:

  • Who is/are my target audience(s)?
  • What parts of my story matter?
  • Is my story interesting?
  • Does my exhibit clearly and succinctly tell the story? (in 10-20 minutes)

Curator responsibilities

A well-curated exhibit will:

  • provide descriptive exhibit labels
  • provide quality metadata for digital resources

Ethics

When using sources, ask yourself:

  • Are you doing so ethically?
  • Have you identified any stakeholders? Have you involved them in the exhibit?
  • Are you providing proper attribution and contextualization?
