Anti-Infodemic Virtual Center of the Americas

The Department of Evidence of Intelligence for Action in Health of the Pan American Health Organization, in collaboration with the Center for Health Informatics of the University of Illinois, is currently carrying-out a proof-of-concept project of an Anti-Infodemic Virtual Center of the Americas. The objective of the Center is to provide decision makers in Ministries of Health of the Pan American region with tools to effectively navigate the challenges posed by infodemics.

The Virtual Center will provide tools to Ministries of Health to mitigate the potential impact of infodemics. Artificial intelligence and machine-learning algorithms will actively detect false or misleading  information that may have a negative impact in public health. It will be coupled with a system to verify and confront misinformation issues with existing evidence.
